Ryan Reynolds Still Wants Hugh Jackman For A Deadpool And Wolverine Movie
While superhero movies are everywhere, there are certain franchises that break the mold. Case in point: Deadpool, which proved that an R-Rated comic book movie could be made on a minimal budget and still make oodles of cash at the box office. The popularity of the character skyrocketed with the release of the first movie, and Deadpool 2 is set to arrive shortly. Fans are also eager to see Wade Wilson interact with other characters from the X-Men universe, especially Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. While the actor seems to have hung up his claws for good, Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that he's still hoping for it happen one day-- even pestering Jackman about it regularly.
I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there's no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He's just the best. I already miss him as Logan, so I'm one of those guys that whenever I see him, I'm like, 'Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We'll do it together. It'll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,' and it's always just me saying it.
Just like the fans, it seems Ryan Reynolds is already hoping that Hugh Jackman returns to the role of Wolverine, and interacts with the new and improved Deadpool. Given the characters' history onscreen (as well as the actors' love for each other) the calls for this team up likely aren't going to stop anytime soon.
Ryan Reynolds' comments to EW make a great deal of sense, especially given the last time Logan and Wade Wilson interacted onscreen. Reynolds played a warped version of the antihero back in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The wise cracking side character was ultimately used as the film's macguffin and final villain, with Wolverine and Sabertooth fighting a mute and overpowered version of Deadpool during the third act. Comic book fans weren't happy with the characterization of Deadpool (or the movie itself), with Ryan Reynolds ultimately given the chance to do the character justice many years later.
Deadpool, in addition to being set in the X-Men universe, features plenty of references to Hugh Jackman. Smart money says this trend continues with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have free range with references and tongue in cheek jokes with Deadpool 2, allowing for the character to say things that comic book fans have been thinking for years. The sequel's trailer took jabs at Henry Cavill's #MustacheGate, and has shown a willingness to "go there" in regards to its dialogue. Now we just have to wait a few more weeks before seeing what insanity ultimately comes with Wade Wilson's second solo movie.
