Gal Gadot Wraps Wonder Woman 1984 With Heartfelt Post And Photos

That's a wrap for Gal Gadot on her Wonder Woman sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. Based on the beautiful message she just posted, along with three set photos, it's safe to say the DCEU's Diana Prince had a -- wait for it -- wonderful time making this movie:

Congratulations! Gal Gadot's genuine gratitude and warmth make it so easy to root for her as Wonder Woman. She loves the character, and takes such pride in sharing Diana with the world. Gadot reunited with her Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins for this film, and you can see them together in the Instagram album Gadot shared on December 23. (Gotta love the Wonder Woman armor paired with athletic shorts -- now that's a look!)

As Gal Gadot notes, a crew of almost 1,000 people filmed Wonder Woman 1984 across four locations in three countries. She sounds very proud of the final result, and can't wait to share it with the rest of us.

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently scheduled for release on June 5, 2020. That's its rescheduled date, but the filmmakers hope to keep it since it would mark almost exactly three years from the June 2017 debut of Wonder Woman. That film turned out very well, currently enjoying the best domestic box office release of any DCEU movie.

It'll be tough for the sequel to compete with the first Wonder Woman film, but at least Gal Gadot sounds happy with the process up to this point. Of course, while principal photography may be complete, the film itself is far from finished. Patty Jenkins and team will be busy in post-production for a long time. It's a good thing they have a year-and-a-half to get it all done.

The '80s timeline of the Wonder Woman sequel is helpfully spelled out right in the title. We know Kristen Wiig is joining the cast as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, with Pedro Pascal as ... someone mysterious, and Chris Pine somehow returning as Steve Trevor. Here's what we know about the movie so far, but more intel (and trailers) will come in as we get closer to the release date.

Wonder Woman 1984 shared some colorful first footage at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. It sounds like we'll be spending a lot of time in '80s shopping malls. Bring your own Aqua Net for a ticket discount! (Just kidding. Unless your local theater goes for that.)

Right now, Wonder Woman's buddy Aquaman is enjoying the success of his first solo film's theatrical release. It's just getting started on the U.S. front, but already crushing overseas. Next up for the DCEU is Shazam! in April 2019. Here's what else is ahead in busy 2019. If Wonder Woman 1984 changes dates from its current June 2020 perch, we'll let you know.

We did it. Again!! And as much as the first time shooting Wonder Woman was amazing, this time was even more unique and special.. We shot in 4 very different locations in 3 countries, and I'm so soooo proud of the almost 1000 crew members who came to set every day, giving everything they have into our movie. Couldn't ask for better partners on this.. I'm so lucky to have the one and only Patty Jenkins, as my director. She always has our backs, she gives us the wings to dare, and everyday she helped us find the most creative version of ourselves .. I am so grateful to call her my friend. And to our AMAZINGly talented cast who made every day enjoyable and fun, thank you! Honestly.. Words cannot describe this experience.. This journey was so demanding and challenging but we all came and did our very best every take, every day, putting our all out there and IĆ¢€™m so proud... Thank you universe for this opportunity. I love this character. And thank you to all of you for being the best fans in the world. It was you that made me push myself every day. I'm so happy and excited, can't wait to share it with you in 2020! ?? Gal

One Big Mysterio Secret We Think Spider-Man: Far From Home Is Hiding

One Big Mysterio Secret We Think Spider-Man: Far From Home Is Hiding

One of the ways that the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movies have distinguished themselves from the Web-Slinger's previous cinematic outings is by using villains that haven't been adapted for the big screen yet. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker tangled directly with Vulture and Shocker, and we were also treated to appearances from The Tinkerer and Mac Gargan (though the latter wasn't in his Scorpion garb). For Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was originally believed Spidey would battle Mysterio, but it's since been revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal's Quentin Beck will actually aid the superhero. Now thanks to the new Far From Home trailer, I can't help but wonder that rather than being a master of illusions like he is in the comics, the MCU's Mysterio is a legitimate spell-caster.

In case you're not familiar with Mysterio, the comic book version of Quentin Beck started out as a special effects expert and stuntman working in Hollywood, but when he realized he couldn't progress further in his career, he turned to a life of crime. His special effects expertise, combined with his skills as a hypnotist, magician, chemist and inventor, quickly made him one of Spider-Man's most formidable foes. He doesn't measure up against Spider-Man in a direct physical fight, but his use of illusions, hallucinogenics and weird gadgets make him incredibly dangerous for not just Spidey, but frankly most Marvel heroes.

When it was first reported that Mysterio would appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home, fans naturally thought we'd be getting a faithful adaptation of the super villain. Obviously some creative liberties would be taken with him, as is the case with characters in every superhero movie, but considering how visually dazzling Mysterio's "powers" are, it was about time he finally get time to shine on the big screen. But clearly the first cinematic Mysterio will be quite different from his comic book counterpart.

Last month, it was revealed that in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Nick Fury has asked Quentin Beck to help Spider-Man battle strange creatures called Elementals. Right off the bat, not only does that set up Mysterio as an ally rather than an enemy to Spider-Man (at least at first), but it also indicates that he has knowledge of magical or alien. Fast-forward to today, this was the final moment in the Far From Home trailer before the title card.

Seeing Mysterio plays tricks on Spider-Man and slowly neutralize him is one thing, but watching him fly into battle and shooting green, smoke-like energy at a giant water monster (could this be the MCU's version of Hydro-Man?) is an entirely different matter. Plus, look at the symbols making up Mysterio's shield when he's blocking that attack. Doesn't it remind you of the spells Doctor Strange and the other sorcerers cast?

Obviously we won't have the full Spider-Man: Far From Home picture until the movie comes out in July, but the fact that we're getting a Mysterio who's helping Spider-Man and combating creatures threatening Earth is a far cry from what fans have come to expect from him. Still, while not faithful to the source material, the possibility of Mysterio being an actual magician rather than a pretender is intriguing.

As we saw in Doctor Strange, just because someone has the ability to conjure magic doesn't mean they're one of the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Maybe like Jonathan Pangborn, Quentin trained under the Masters and eventually decided he didn't want to join the organization, or maybe he learned how to conjure magic from another source. Either way, he's clearly a man of many talents, which is why Nick Fury would want to work with him.

While the MCU movies didn't show S.H.I.E.L.D. dealing with magic outside of Coulson and his agents interacting with Thor and the Destroyer armor in New Mexico, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. made it clear that Nick Fury has dealt with supernatural forces in the past, like the Darkhold. Fury may not be directly affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore (as far as the movies are concerned, the organization is still collapsed), but he's still keeping up his spy work. So naturally he'd keep Quentin Beck on retainer should the right threat pop up, and these Elementals evidently fit that classification.

Of course, it's still possible that Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio is still relying on technology, and the reason its capabilities loo like magic is because he has a taste for the theatrical, especially if, like his comic book counterpart, he previously worked in Hollywood. Going further, though, there's also the possibility that 'deception' is still the name of Mysterio's game in the MCU.

Perhaps the Elementals aren't magical or extraterrestrial beings, but advanced technology that Quentin Beck either built himself or obtained elsewhere. Quentin subsequently decides to set up an elaborate scenario were he gets to look like a superhero; the man who saves the day and the public adores. His Elementals are causing real harm, and only Mysterio is the one who can "defeat" him. Spider-Man would eventually catch wind of this plot and fight Mysterio, thus giving a classic clash between these two like we were expecting. But then something goes wrong and causes one or more of the Elementals to go haywire. Quentin can no longer control them, leaving it up to Spidey to neutralize them once and for all.

Longtime Marvel fans know Mysterio as an antagonist who merely fakes having magical powers, so turning him into a real spell-caster for Spider-Man: Far From Home might not sit well with certain fans. On the other hand, sometimes deviations from the source material in a comic book movie can still be well-received, and perhaps Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio will be counted among this group (it certainly helps that he's still wearing the fishbowl). Or maybe this all just one intricate ploy and Mysterio is still the illusion-casting baddie we love. Hopefully the next Far From Home trailer will clear this matter up.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will spin its web in theaters on July 5. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on the movie, and if you're interested in learning what other movies are opening this year, check out our 2019 release schedule.

I get people not trusting Mysterio. I don't get people assuming there is no Multiverse because of it. Like we saw it. In Endgame. It was the whole second act. That aside, while I think he's lying about everything else and is the cause of the Planeteers, I'm not writing off him being from a different Earth simply because that lines up with some of his comic stories.

Steven S. DeKnight Already Knows Who He Wants To Star In A God Of War Movie

Steven S. DeKnight Already Knows Who He Wants To Star In A God Of War Movie

Earlier this year, one of Sony's premier franchises, God of War, finally released an eagerly anticipated new entry on the Playstation 4. The game, acting as something of a reboot for the series, debuted to huge sales and universal critical acclaim. As with all major video game franchises, especially those with the cinematic qualities of something like God of War, there is always the belief that it could be adapted into a great movie. One person who is a fan of the franchise and wants the job of making it into a movie is Steven S. DeKnight. The Pacific Rim Uprising director even has someone in mind to play the protagonist Kratos: none other than Drax himself, Dave Bautista. Steven S. DeKnight spoke about God of War and Kratos, saying:

I would love to tackle God of War movie or I would love to see somebody put that up on the big screen. Somebody asked me, 'Well, who would you have to have Kratos?' And immediately for me: Dave Bautista would be the man. I think he can do anything. You can do drama, real emotion, humor, action. What would I like to see from a movie like that? A bit of a tricky question because there hasn't really been 100% success of translating a video game to a movie. It's a very, very tricky process.

It is easy to see why Steven S. DeKnight would pick Dave Bautista for Kratos. The actor probably looks more like the Spartan warrior than any other actor out there. Fans of the game will definitely want whoever plays Kratos to look the part, and a portion of that means having an intimidating physical presence. Kratos walks around shirtless throughout the games with ash white skin, and Dave Bautista is no stranger to playing a character that requires him to be shirtless all the time and covered in makeup. Dave Bautista has also continued to hone his acting chops over time, proving to have be adept at comedy in addition to his obvious action presence.

Depending on which game or which part of his story you adapt, the character of Kratos doesn't necessarily require a ton of range. He is a tragic character and he does have some emotional beats to his tale, but in the majority of the games he is just kind of a jerk that walks around in a state of constant rage killing people. Still, as with any iconic video game character, casting is key because Kratos needs to be a magnetic and charismatic figure that really pops onscreen and draws you into his story. As Steven S. DeKnight told Comicbook.com, there hasn't been a truly successful or great video game movie yet, and making one work is a very tricky process. For any God of War movie, part of the trick is getting the right person to play Kratos.

It's tough to know who would be right for the part without knowing exactly what direction a God of War movie would go. Dave Bautista might work, but personally, I could also see someone like Travis Fimmel from Vikings take on Kratos. His Ragnar Lothbrok looked similar to Kratos, and Travis Fimmel played him with a bit of craziness that I think Kratos needs. Although he already starred in one video game disappointment Warcraft, and I'm not sure he would want to take on another. A different option, and someone that Steven S. DeKnight worked with on the Spartacus TV series, is Manu Bennett. I think the man who played Crixus could bring the right level of intensity to Kratos while also giving him the necessary pathos.

I imagine its only a matter of time before a God of War movie is officially announced, at which point we can all cross our fingers that the right person, perhaps Dave Bautista, plays Kratos, and we finally get a video game movie that 100% delivers. Until then you can catch Dave Bautista's next movie Hotel Artemis, in theaters on June 8.
